Next month Bridport Refugee Support Campaign are holding a fundraising concert in Bridport, and are pleased to confirm that award-winning singer-songwriter Joe Solo will be playing his only gig in Dorset this year to support the group.
Joe Solo is an award-winning musician, writer, poet, activist, broadcaster and washing machine engineer from Scarborough. His musical odyssey began in 1987 fronting a bash-em-out band at school, and has seen him play nine countries, either as lynchpin of pop-punk upstarts Lithium Joe or hammering out his unique brand of Folk, Punk and Blues in his own right.
The show will be raising funds for the Bridport Refugee Support Campaign (BRSC) and its work to support refugees in the town, and Barry Lovejoy BRSC Chair said, “It’s fantastic to have Joe Solo in Bridport to support the campaign.”
“Though known to audiences across Dorset through his performances at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and being one of the lead lights behind the We Shall Overcome grassroots community support initiative, this is Joe’s first visit to Bridport – and a night not to miss.”
Supporting Joe on the night will be Bridport’s socialist choir, Dorset Red, and Bridport’s very own radical poet, Dylan Ross.
Musician and 6 Music DJ Tom Robinson said about Joe after seeing him at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival, “I heard this noise coming off the stage, and I went WOW, whoever that is, I’ve got to go and check him out, and there was just this one man on the stage blowing up a storm with an acoustic guitar!”
The show takes place on Friday, 30th May, in Bridport WI Hall, North Street. Doors at 7.00 pm and there will be a bar (and probably a raffle).
Tickets are £10 + 50p booking fee from Bridport Tourist Information Centre or £12 on the door. They can also be bought from the TIC website.
