Schools are out, and the Kingcombe Centre is the place to be this summer, with creative activities for kids and splendid summer strolls! The Kingcombe Centre promises to put a smile on your face and give you an experience to remember.
Have you ever pondered a pile of poo and wondered who it came from? Have you ever thought about what lurks beneath a pond’s surface, or wanted to delve into the world of creepy crawlies? Well, if you have, then the Kingcombe Kids Club is the place to find all the answers!
Through a range of activities we help children explore and experience nature first hand, guiding them and that learn about food chains, farming and respecting wildlife.
The Kingcombe Kids Club runs every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the school holidays and it’s sure to captivate young minds through engaging events like ‘Poo, Prints, Fur and Feathers’ to ‘Bugs and Beasties’ and ‘Stick Day’ – we promise, there are endless possibilities of things you can do with a stick!
Or, why not join us on one of our Sunday Strolls. Led by Dorset Wildlife Trust staff and local naturalists, these walks showcase and spotlight the diverse wildlife that make up the beautiful reserve at Kingcombe. The walks are leisurely, at around 1-2 miles between 10am and 12pm and there’s no need to book!
Each Sunday Stroll has a theme, such as Fungi Forays or a Ramble through the Rushes, so you can keep coming back assured of a fresh and exciting walk to enjoy. Prices are £6 for adults and £3 for children; this includes the guided stroll as well as a hard earned tea and cake when you kick off your walking boots back at the centre!
If you can’t make any of these events then why not pop down anyway. We can show you where to go and send you on your way with a trail guide and some ID charts so you can explore the reserves at your own pace.
Whether you choose to explore the reserves or simply want a quiet and peaceful place to spend time whilst enjoying some fantastic food, the Conservatory Café at Kingcombe offers refreshments including light lunches, teas and coffees, and delicious homemade cakes for tired tykes and starving strollers alike. It’s open 10am-4pm every day during the summer holidays.

Whether you join us on a guided walk, a family event or head off to explore the reserves at your own pace, we are sure you will enjoy the wonderful countryside around us. There are lots to see, such as butterflies flitting over the flowers, bees busy buzzing or the swifts screaming over-head. Or if you prefer the quieter pace of life, you can simply sit back and enjoy the peace, quiet and tranquillity of a landscape that has not changed significantly in hundreds of years. However you choose to enjoy the magic that is Kingcombe, we look forward to seeing you over the summer holidays!”
