Yellow Buses continues to bring art to its passengers with the introduction of a new service – the poetry bus.

Previously the Bournemouth-based company introduced ‘artists in residence’ on its fleet and their work currently adorns the popular ‘Gallery Bus’.

Now poet Bob Hill has a year’s free travel on the Yellows as ‘Poet in Residence’ and together with a dozen guest poets will be composing verse throughout the next 12 months

After the creatives have milked the muse their offerings will be installed on a specific bus so all travellers can read the poetry.

The Yellows are looking for potential guest poets to assist in the project that Bob will be leading.

Jenni Wilkinson, Yellows’ Head of Marketing, said: “After the success of the Gallery Bus we wondered what we could do next.

“Then I met Bob at a meeting arranged by the Bournemouth Chamber and realised that poetry could be the next form of art we could bring to the buses.

“Bob will be travelling for a year on the Yellows and every month there will be a ‘guest poet’ who will also be composing verse.

“We would like to hear from anyone who wants to be a guest poet – and we’d welcome poems from anyone who wants to send them to us.

“After a year we will have plenty of work that will adorn the ‘Poetry Bus’.”

Bob, whose company is called The Mighty Pen, said: “It’s a great idea and I know from my workshopping in schools and other places how words and poetry can excite and interest the young and not so young alike

“Travelling on buses is a wonderful experience; listening to others’ conversations, meeting people, watching all the human activity.

“There is lots of inspiration to be had travelling on the buses and I’m delighted that the Yellows are continuing to back local artists.”

Yellow buses will be putting up a dedicated page on its bybus.co.uk website.
