Following this expose on the far right, racism manifested itself in a Facebook group entitled ‘No to the Barge’.
The Independent Media Association (IMA) has issued a statement:
‘We, the Independent Media Association, strongly condemn the harassment and intimidation against our members, the journalists of Dorset Eye, who have been targeted for exposing racism and extremism in our communities.
Dorset Eye recently published an article titled “Fear, Grievance, and Hate: How a Community Became Radicalised,” shedding light on concerning issues within our society. Individuals associated with the article’s subjects, some linked to groups like Patriotic Alternative and the BNP, have responded with alarming harassment.
These journalists have faced unwelcome visits, relentless phone calls, and malicious messages. Around 25 fake Facebook accounts have been created in their names to spread hate and falsehoods, a blatant violation of their rights and journalistic integrity.
We urge the police to take action and stand with Dorset Eye’s journalists. We call on our members and supporters to show solidarity and insist that authorities investigate this harassment thoroughly, ensuring accountability under the law.
The Independent Media Association remains committed to protecting journalists and preserving press freedom. Harassment and intimidation will not deter us from our shared goal of giving voice to those who need it most and exposing the truth, regardless of the challenges face.
