Strictly Come Dancing: The Show Where Women Have To Keep On Smiling While Being Groped

The BBC’s history of enabling perverts is now well documented. Savile, Harris, Hall, Denning, Travis, King…. Sadly as the Strictly scandal reveals it has still not learnt its lesson.

The following from October 12 2024 should have seen Katya knock this slimy thing out. But no she has to put up with it and keep smiling.

When will men like this realise that they make most women sick to the stomach? When will they refrain from this type of behaviour and realise that it is unacceptable?

Answer: when the culture changes away from misogyny and abuse. That is when.

Update:

On Sunday Katya Jones has responded directly to the clip of her moving Evans’ hand away from the middle of her waist.

“Happy Sunday everyone,” she said in a video posted to Instagram.

“Now, I need to make something crystal clear. The hand incident that happened on Saturday night was an inside – a very silly, very silly – inside joke between Wynne and I.

“So even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended me in any way is complete nonsense.

“It’s quite absurd actually. Now, can we just focus on how brilliantly he’s doing and what an amazing dancer he’s becoming?”

My response:

Sorry Katya, many of us are not having this. It was entirely inappropriate, even if it was ‘a joke’. Given the history of sexual abuse and contestants feeling very uncomfortable, even those with low intelligence could have determined this behaviour is at least in very bad taste. Instead of trying to dismiss it there should be an apology and an acceptance that this was unacceptable. Over to you and Wynne.

More info on the BBC’s sexual predators mentioned above:

1. Jimmy Savile

  • Background: Jimmy Savile was one of the most well-known figures on British television, hosting shows like Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It.
  • Prosecution: Savile was never prosecuted during his lifetime, but after his death in 2011, numerous allegations of sexual abuse spanning decades came to light. He was accused of abusing hundreds of victims, including children. The Operation Yewtree investigation revealed that Savile was a prolific sexual predator, but his crimes were not acted upon while he was alive.

2. Stuart Hall

  • Background: Stuart Hall was a veteran BBC broadcaster, most famous for presenting It’s a Knockout.
  • Prosecution: In 2013, Hall was charged and pleaded guilty to 14 charges of indecent assault involving girls aged 9 to 17, dating back to the 1970s and 80s. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison, but the sentence was later increased to 30 months due to public outcry about its leniency.

3. Rolf Harris

  • Background: Rolf Harris was an Australian entertainer who hosted several shows on the BBC, including Rolf’s Cartoon Club.
  • Prosecution: In 2014, Harris was convicted on 12 counts of indecent assault involving girls as young as 7, dating from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison. He was released on parole in 2017 after serving just under three years.

4. Chris Denning

  • Background: Chris Denning was a former BBC Radio 1 DJ during the station’s early years.
  • Prosecution: Denning had a long history of sexual offenses involving boys. He was convicted multiple times over the years, starting in the late 1970s. In 2016, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for abusing 11 boys, with the crimes spanning from 1969 to 1986.

5. Dave Lee Travis

  • Background: Dave Lee Travis (real name: David Griffin) was a long-time BBC Radio 1 DJ and presenter of Top of the Pops.
  • Prosecution: Travis faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct as part of the Operation Yewtree investigation. In 2014, he was found guilty of indecent assault on a woman in 1995. He was given a suspended sentence of three months. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges.

6. Jonathan King

  • Background: Jonathan King was a former BBC presenter, music producer, and pop singer.
  • Prosecution: In 2001, King was convicted of sexually abusing five teenage boys between 1983 and 1989. He was sentenced to seven years in prison. After serving half of his sentence, King was released in 2005. In 2018, he was charged again with historical sex offenses but was acquitted of these new charges.

This is the tip of the iceberg as the current admissions regarding Strictly reveal. If viewers demand change it will happen. If viewers switch off change will happen. Otherwise it will take a lot longer and the culture will continue to destroy the lives of many more girls and women.
