48 year old man arrested following suspicious fire in Dorchester

Detectives investigating a suspicious fire in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

At around 10.40pm on Thursday 11 March 2021 Dorset Police received a report of a fire in a bin store at an address in Foundry Place.

Officers attended, along with the fire service and the fire was extinguished.

A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been released on police bail as detectives continue to make enquiries.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Detective Constable Charlie Soutine, of Weymouth CID, said: “Our investigation into this fire is ongoing and I would urge anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on the evening of Thursday 11 March 2021 to please contact us.

“I would also urge anyone who may have been driving in the area and has dascham fitted or residents in the vicinity with home CCTV to check their footage for the relevant period.”
