Weymouth Town Council has teamed up with Westfield Arts College to create a temporary trail for local people in Radipole Gardens. Residents who visit the gardens over the next few weeks will notice some colourful additions to the peaceful community space.

Hand-painted hearts have been positioned around the gardens in time for the Easter holidays. Visitors are invited to spot them as they enjoy strolling through the park. There are around 35 hearts in total, which have all been beautifully decorated by pupils at the college.

Craig Hart, Art Teacher from Westfield Arts College, commented:

“Our pupils really enjoyed painting the hearts and making their mark on them. As a school we love sharing our creative work with the wider local community, we hope everyone enjoys the hearts when they visit the gardens.”

Cllr Gill Taylor, Community Development Champion, said:

“We’re so pleased students at Westfield Arts College agreed to help us with this project. I’d like to thank them for their fantastic work to make this lovely trail for the local community to enjoy. We hope the students will have fun spotting their own contribution too!”

Resources for the art trail have been supplied as part of the Radipole Park and Gardens Project. The council are working with the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens volunteer group on the project, which has been awarded funding from the Heritage and Community Lottery Fund.

The funding is being used to make improvements and changes to the site, including a new path network for visitors. Popular areas, such as the sports courts will be repaired and improved, with extra facilities added.

Plans also include exciting new features, such as the installation of a new heritage café, toilets, updated play area and a Sensory Garden.
