Take the Leap: Why Life Begins at the Edge of Your Comfort Zone

If you want an easy life, then it makes sense to stick to a rigid routine, and push your boundaries in very small increments. However, an easy life isn’t always a fulfilling one. Occasionally, it’s a good idea to take a leap on something that you aren’t quite sure of. A little bit of risk can often be what makes life worthwhile!

Let’s take a look at exactly why this might be.

Breaks Routine and Sparks Excitement

A life of routine can often be a life of monotony. If you feel that your day-to-day existence is becoming stale, then a change might help to introduce some much-needed novelty.

Of course, creating to-do lists, and long-term plans, can be enormously beneficial. But a good plan should afford you some flexibility, and the chance to take opportunities, and act on whims, as they arise.

Builds Confidence and Resilience

One problem with a rigid routine is that it can end up becoming comfortable. In some cases, this can be beneficial. You might be more likely to go for a morning jog if you feel that it’s an essential part of your day.

But breaking away from routine can be a skill, too – and by working on it, you might make yourself more capable of dealing with uncertainty. After all, unexpected events will occasionally cause you to break from your routine, and being able to react to those events can be critical.

The new event might be relatively minor. You might decide to try a new sport or pastime, or spark up a conversation with a stranger. What qualifies as a big deal for you will depend on your nature and personality – but even a small spontaneous act can help you build confidence.

Creates Unforgettable Experiences

Often, an unplanned activity can enrich your life in ways that you might not previously have imagined, and leave you with memories that might last for years. For example, you might head out on a road trip at the weekend, or go for an unplanned night out. Last-minute ski holidays might propel you into a strange and unfamiliar world – and they might even start up a love of skiing that lasts a lifetime.

Opens Doors to New Opportunities

By taking the occasional risk, you might find that you stumble upon an opportunity to do something profitable. You might develop as a person, gain a new insight, or get a chance to start a new career.
Sometimes, the biggest risk of all is to steer clear of risks entirely.

Boosts Happiness and Reduces Stress

There is strong evidence that novel experiences are great for human health and wellbeing, in that they stimulate dopamine production. This is the hormone that deals with desire and motivation. When life is spontaneous, it can be less stressful, more invigorating, and better all around!
