The Angel in Wareham has reopened its doors following an extensive refurbishment, with new Hall & Woodhouse (H&W) Business Partner, Malcolm Bain, at the helm.
H&W has invested more than £300,000 into transforming the pub, with a full internal refurbishment and significant improvements made to the outdoor spaces. The work has seen the building be completely redesigned to create a warm, traditional pub atmosphere.
The pub now has a refreshed interior with a new central main entrance leading into the redesigned bar and dining areas, with wooden flooring throughout, and improved toilet facilities. Outside, the pub now boasts a raised terrace with Portland Stone walls leading to an enhanced courtyard and grass beer garden, providing seating for up to 125 guests. The outdoor space is perfect for al fresco dining, making it an ideal spot to enjoy lunch, evening meals, and relaxed drinks. A new children’s playground is also planned for completion in April 2027.
Malcolm brings more than 30 years of hospitality experience to The Angel, having spent the last two decades running the successful family-owned Hunter’s Lodge in Somerset. He already has strong ties to Dorset, as Malcolm previously lived in Bournemouth, so he is delighted to be returning to the area.
Commenting on the reopening, Malcolm said: “The Angel is a fantastic opportunity because we can focus entirely on delivering a great experience for our guests from day one. Hall & Woodhouse has created a beautiful pub with traditional character, and we’re excited to build a welcoming space that becomes part of the local community. Our aim is to create somewhere that appeals to everyone, whether you’re a local resident, a visitor exploring the area, or someone staying at one of the nearby campsites. We want The Angel to be a place where everyone feels at home.”
The Angel serves quality pub favourites including classic burgers, fish and chips, and a Sunday carvery. The pub has reopened with a new weekend breakfast buffet served from 9am. Malcolm also has plans to introduce themed evenings such as pie nights and curry nights.
Mark James, Business Partnerships and Property Director at Hall & Woodhouse, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Malcolm as a Hall & Woodhouse Business Partner. His extensive hospitality experience and proven track record of operating successful, food-led pubs make him an excellent fit for The Angel. The refurbishment has transformed the venue into a fantastic destination for both locals and visitors, and we’re looking forward to seeing Malcolm grow The Angel as a thriving community pub.”
