Let’s pause to savour the staggering irony of Russia’s open-armed invitation to those who despise “neoliberal ideals” and become tumescent at the idea of “traditional values” – and point snigglingly at the weapons grade hypocrisy of it all.
Shall we?
First off, just the sheer absurdity.
The very people who’ve spent years howling about “uncontrolled migration” and “undocumented immigrants flooding our country” are now salivating at the maw at the very thought of heading off to Russia – where, let’s be honest, “uncontrolled” and “undocumented” is quite literally written on the welcome mat. No need to speak the language, no need to understand the culture or the laws – just roll up, rant about the West’s “decay,” and embrace the Motherland.
The mental gymnastics here could win a damned Olympic medal.
Then there’s the delicious irony of cultural purity. These are the same people who have thrown the most spectacular fannywobbles over immigrants in the UK “refusing to assimilate,” not learning English, and not respecting “our way of life.” Yet, here they find themselves, ready to flounce off to Russia with not even a shred of intent to do any of the things they’ve demanded from others for years. It’s enough to make you wonder if they even hear themselves speak.
Oh, and let’s definitely not overlook their incessant wailing about “free speech being stifled” in the West. These self-styled defenders of “freedom” are positively giddy about moving to a place where free speech is, shall we say, a touch more hazardous to one’s health. But hey, who needs freedom of expression when you’ve got all those delicious “traditional values,” right?
Here’s the brutal truth: this isn’t about safeguarding culture, language, or freedom. It’s about running away, tail between legs, from a society that demands decency, equality, and a bit of self-restraint. These people so ready to make a bee-line for the East aren’t defenders of Western values – they’re deserters, cowards, slinking off to a regime that will let them punch down without consequence (as long as it’s state sanctioned, of course).
So, to those eagerly packing their bags for the land of “traditional values,” I say: enjoy. I hear the winters are lovely and long – perfect for those long chats with your new “undocumented” neighbours.
