The British Public has Caroline Flack’s Blood on their hands

Caroline Flack’s death was another tragic loss in the world of reality TV. A loss that could have been avoided. After another Love Island star, Mike Thalassitis, took his own life, the Metro newspaper discovered there were 38 other victims around the world who also took their own lives after appearing on a reality TV show. This is a statistic that should not be overlooked. There is an undisputed correlation here with reality TV celebrities taking their own lives and the media elite. The British public have made a rapid conclusion that the media elite are the sole reason there have been so many deaths in correlation to ITV’s Love Island TV show. I agree the media are partially responsible, but they are not the focal perpetrators. The British public are.

After Caroline’s death, like they did with Mike and Sophie Gardon, the British public poured their hearts out, while firing accusations at the culprits behind tabloid gossip. As much as a I agree with individuals and groups behind tabloid gossip being held accountable, the public must understand they are primarily guilty. While living in a capitalist society, every business works on a key economic principle – demand and supply. There are many reasons why tabloid gossip operates in the way it does but the key factor – gossip makes money. It makes money because there is a demand for it. If it makes money the tabloids will continue distributing the gossip.

Common phrases that have appeared on my social media accounts since Caroline died, were: ‘the media need to stop creating lies and gossip, to the point it breaks someone’s mental health so much where they only feel they have one choice left’. If this is true, the same people need to stop purchasing magazines and newspapers with gossip columns or headlines that, for example, describe a reality TV star appearing in court for assault. Every purchase or click helps keep the media elites gossip columns burning, if its burning – they will keep throwing wood on the fire. The British public need to make a stand and stop purchasing these sick gossip columns which are destroying innocent lives; so, their fire is consequently put out without any chance of reignition.

In summary we need to hit the media elite where it hurts! If the public stops reading, it will hurt them financially. I urge you all to stop reading and clicking on their immoral gossip stories; and ‘stories’ are exactly all they are. Do you want to be part of the cause for the next inevitable celebrity’s suicide?
