Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) is offering a chance to discover the dazzling dragonflies of Upton Heath this spring half term.
On The Great Heath Dragonfly Safari, families can find out more about these incredible and beautiful insects, with dragonfly activities and a walk to look for the real thing at a top dragonfly site.
Nicky Hoar, The Great Heath Learning and Interpretation Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “Come and join us as we search the heath for these mini winged dragons. Find out why this is such a special place for them and take home your own dragonfly activity and spotter sheet.”
The Great Heath Living Landscape has purchased 1,500 acres of wildlife rich land for the benefit of people and wildlife in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and East Dorset and this event is the start of many opportunities for people of all ages to get involved.
Nicky added: “We are excited to be launching this very first event in The Great Heath Living Landscape project. With our partners, we want to bring people closer to the wildlife around us so that we can all enjoy it and protect it.”
Upton Heath has been named as a top site for dragonflies in Britain, with 25 species recorded, from the daintiest damselflies to magnificent dragonflies like the broad bodied chaser and the emperor.
