Local Green Party parliamentary candidate for West Dorset, Peter Barton  said “I want to express to the electorate of West Dorset my strong support for the recent call from National Debtline for the establishment by government of free debt advice. National Debtline has reported that it received over three hundred calls for help from residents of West Dorset over the last two years, but with only 17% of people with debt problems in the UK seeking advice, many more local people could be suffering in silence without the kind of informed support they need”.

People with debt problems can contact the National Debtline, a free advice service run by charity the Money Advice Trust via 0808 808 4000 or www.nationaldebtline.org  for advice about unmanageable debt, including problems with credit cards, personal loans, mortgage debts, payday loans, council tax arrears, rent arrears, bailiffs and count court judgements (CCJs). For those experiencing problems in their businesses, its sister service Business Debtline can be contacted via 0800 197 6026 or www.businessdebtline.org
