The Labour right absolutely LOVE polls. Every day for 5 years they told us “We would be 20 points clear in the polls if Keir Starmer (or a Labour right MP) was leader”. Since April 2020, Labour has had large swathes of the media come onboard and give positive coverage. Starmer is still in his honeymoon period. We have literally the worst government and PM of all time in charge, having caused by their incompetency tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths. Labour has the commentariat onside. Labour has the PLP onside. All MASSIVE advantages Corbyn never had.
So, WTF is Labour going BACKWARDS in the polls and the Tories increasing?
Yet, article after article tells us how well Starmer is doing. Corbyn literally faced a coup, and were he in charge now with these numbers and these advantages, he would already have faced another coup. So, to judge the Labour right by the standards they judge, they are doing just about as badly as it is possible to do. Why? Because who on earth wants an Opposition that doesn’t oppose, that has no ideas, that is moving to the right, that cannot even say Trump is racist, that has monumentally p*ss*d off members, BAME voters and seen the Kashmiri population abandon us en masse. That thinks private landlords should get rent arrears from people who cannot afford to eat WITH interest on top, that can’t even back it’s own Shadow Minister re Enviro issues, and who thinks we SHOULD NOT rich taxes on the rich?! The answer is BARELY ANYONE.
Labour currently is doing unbelievably badly given the above. No matter how much spin Starmer & his supporters want to put on it. PANDERING DOES NOT WORK. STOP ACTING LIKE IT’S 1997 and stop trying to be a Neo Liberal watered-down version of the Tories. You are demoralising the membership, betraying BAME people and CLEARLY NOT inspiring the public. FFS, STOP LISTENING TO BLAIR/LABOUR TO WIN/PROGRESS etc. They are always consistently wrong, and have been for 20+ years. Stop this ego-stroking project at the expense of the Party. It’s demonstrably failing. Act like JA, NZ PM-look how she is reaping the rewards of swinging significantly to the Left on policy. Labour are literally doing the reverse.
EVERY SINGLE Social Democratic Party around the world is getting hammered in elections based on those politics. We saw this in 2017 and 2019. STOP IT. Get a grip before it’s too late, because at the moment, quite frankly, your abandoning the members and not inspiring anyone. Well, anyone not a Blairite. To apply the Labour right logic here-Labour is currently TWENTY NINE POINTS BEHIND where we would “definitely be if Starmer was leader”.
