This is the evil fascist abuse I’ve just received from someone – the first comment on the ‘UK Parrliamant Debate’ group and the second on my profile (under my post about the rise of racism, fascism and hate crime since the Election).
I recently joined a group named ‘UK Parrliament Debate’ (yes, with two r’s in ‘parrliament!’ Should have been a warning to me!)
I joined because I’d seen an interesting conversation on there a few days ago and thought I’d check it out. Like many of these pages, it’s now filled with Far Right racists declaring victory and exhibiting their hideous racism.
I’ve been intending to leave but then, about half an hour ago, I made my first comment on the page. I saw a post saying that, no matter how you voted, we should all feel ‘proud to be British’ and this was followed with a Union flag (as so many of these posts are, especially the more overtly racist ones).
Here is how I responded, followed by a reply by someone called ‘Apent Jerry’ followed by my reply to that.

Tom Lane: No longer proud of a country where my fellow countrymen and women have voted for more lies, racism, cruelty, poverty, homelessness, ‘early preventable deaths’ and the destruction of our free healthcare. Definitely no longer proud of a country where the Far Right have been encouraged and assimilated into the party in power. No longer proud to be British when that word and that Union flag you posted has been ‘stolen’ by Far Right fascists and Nazis – the very kind our forebearers fought so bravely against in WWII. No, I’m patriotic about a country that is kind, compassionate, welcoming and celebrates diversity. That country has gone and I feel bereft!

There are only two things visible on Apent Jerry’s profile: a photo and the words: “I don’t trust anything that bleeds for 5 days and doesn’t die”…. a disgusting, anti-women trope.
Before I replied with the ‘QED’, he had already found a post on my profile about the surge in hate speech/crime (which I had made ‘public’) and written the comment about lynching me from a lamp-post. I’ve now changed that post to ‘friends’ and blocked him.
I’m lucky! I’m white, male, heterosexual, 6’ 2” and don’t give a shit. But as I have already been pointing out, since the Election of an extremely right wing government with a history of using racism to gain support and a Prime Minister with a long history of racism, all over the UK – both online and in real life – hate speech is everywhere and people are being disgustingly racially abused, told to ‘fuck off back to your own country’ etc.
People are frightened. People are upset and worried and genuinely scared. Friends of mine! Other human beings! OUR HUMAN FAMILY!!
I repeat….. OUR FOREBEARERS FOUGHT THE SECOND WORLD WAR AGAINST THIS SHIT!!!
We have entered a dark moment in our country’s history. The evil of racism has been fostered and utilised by the Conservatives, the media and the Far Right to persuade the ordinary people to vote for the interests of the rich – just as has happened in the US.
We have entered a time when fascism is flourishing – both from an authoritarian government and from the vicious racism of the Far Right and hateful people.
I HEREBY VOW TO FIGHT THIS EVIL SHIT!!
I WILL DO ALL I CAN TO PROTECT OUR COUNTRY FROM THE EVILS OF RACISM & FASCISM THAT TOOK OVER 1930’s NAZI GERMANY.
AND I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO SUPPORT PEOPLE FROM ETHNIC MINORITIES AND THE EU WHO ARE CURRENTLY THREATENED BY THIS BARBARISM!
