‘Wessex Musical Theatre’, whose members are this year celebrating the society’s centenary, have been rehearsing online for upcoming performances.

The charitable group, formally known as ‘Weymouth Operatic Society’, have been meeting once a week, online, to sing their hearts out from the comfort of their living rooms and kitchens!

Musical director, Jon May, said: “We all missed singing so it made sense to start rehearsing online. Particularly as it’s our 100th birthday, we couldn’t just sit back and wait to meet in person. It’s been wonderful to learn some new material as well as re-visiting our favourites, ensuring we are ready to go as soon as we can perform together again!”

After having to cancel three performances due to the pandemic, including the highly anticipated production of ‘Oliver!’, featuring local children and a pet dog as the stars; the 40-strong group are looking forward to a busy summer of events.

The first event, ‘Singing at Nothe Fort with Wessex Musical Theatre’ promises to be a hit with all the family! Described as an evening of Stage and Screen at the popular local venue, Nothe Fort; it will feature hits from The Lion King, The Greatest Showman and The Sound of Music as well as many more! The audience are encouraged to bring picnics and enjoy an evening of beautiful music and sing-a-longs.

‘Singing at Nothe Fort with Wessex Musical Theatre’ takes place on Saturday 24th July at 5pm. Tickets are £10 for adults, £6 for children. For more information and tickets please visit wessexmusicaltheatre.eventbrite.co.uk
