The government has embarked on a programme of silencing dissent and protest, removing access to legal aid support and of changing the way people participate in society away from self determination to a system of coercion.
The ‘Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Bill’ which should be correctly named ‘The Gagging and Blacklisting Bill’, is the latest gambit to weaken and silence political opposition. ‘Graham Allen, a Labour MP and chairman of the committee called the bill a “dog’s breakfast”, while Douglas Carswell, a Tory MP, said that was inaccurate because “far more thought has gone into pet nutrition.’ (1)
The ability to will and determine our own actions is innate, it is not learned behaviour, it comes built in. Anything that excessively inhibits or prevents us from doing this is psychologically harmful to us. Whilst it is clear that in order for human beings to get along we must learn self restraint and a lack of self restraint is also toxic to us, self restraint is learned behaviour, not innate, and requires will and determination in order to achieve it.
The Tax Payers Alliance is calling for everyone in receipt of benefits, with few exceptions, to do 30 hours work a week in return for their benefits, The only beneficiaries of this massive expansion of Workfare, will be those companies who will be paid to exploit this free (to them) source of labour at tax payers expense and the government which is driving forward this culture of coercion for their own ends.
No society can survive healthily if it is driven by coercion. Authoritarian dictatorships come and go and they are all to a greater or lesser degree brutal.Britainhas now arrived at the unenviable position of being an authoritarian dictatorship. Under the guise of austerity the government has brutalised the welfare system and stripped away workers right and protections causing untold misery and distress. This is no way to live and betrays everything that makes life worthwhile and meaningful. Britain’s history of feudalism and imperialism has left it ill prepared to wake up to this descent into a dictatorship and it is largely being overlooked or ignored. As the old saying goes, it is too late to bolt the stable door after the horse has bolted and the time to wake up and act is right now.
