Entering Parliament via a 1994 by-election, Hodge’s ministerial trajectory included roles such as Junior Minister for Disabled People in 1998, Minister for Universities in 2001, and a groundbreaking appointment as the inaugural Children’s Minister in 2003, earning a position on the Privy Council. Her portfolio expanded to Minister of State for Work in 2005, followed by stints as Minister of State for Culture and Tourism until Labour’s electoral defeat in 2010, after which she continued as a backbencher in the House of Commons.
Recent announcements indicate Hodge’s decision not to contest the upcoming general election, signalling the end of her parliamentary career. In a recent vote amidst the Palestinian-Israeli war, she notably opposed a ceasefire in November.
