The previous cod wars were a series of mostly 20th century confrontations between the United Kingdom and Iceland about fishing rights in the North Atlantic. Each of the disputes ended with an Icelandic victory. Although the conflict had been occurring since the 14th century it was during the mid to late 20th century that the situation escalated.

In 1972, Iceland unilaterally declared an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extending beyond its territorial waters, before announcing plans to reduce overfishing. It policed its quota system with the Icelandic Coast Guard, leading to a series of net-cutting incidents with British trawlers that fished the areas. As a result, the Royal Navy deployed warships and tugboats to act as a deterrent against any future harassment of British fishing crews by the Icelandic craft, resulting in direct confrontations between Icelandic patrol vessels and British warships, which included ramming incidents.
The dispute ended in 1976 after Iceland threatened to close a major NATO base in retaliation for Britain’s deployment of naval vessels within the disputed 200 nautical mile (370 km) limit. The British government conceded, and agreed that after 1 December 1976 British trawlers would not fish within the previously disputed area
The problem was and remains is that fish do not understand the swamp also known as human politics. They swim around oblivious to the childish gestures of power crazed adults. They are not even aware that humans are on a path of self destruction as the populace continue to vote for idiots with a superiority complex.
And now in 2020… the biggest idiot of them all is attempting to win over dulled and vacuous minds again with a so called ‘gun boat diplomacy’ not with little old Iceland but with virtually a whole continent. Add to this that the new administration in the US will support an economic union that brings much greater rewards to their capitalist empire than the country with an ego so inflated it is on the verge of going POP, it is a result that no bookie would touch.
The right wing nutters are on full throttle over the new opportunities to scream and scratch.

‘Armed Royal Navy boats are being prepared to patrol the UK’s fishing waters in an apparent final warning shot to Brussels as negotiations enter the final 48 hours.
Four of the 80-metre vessels are on standby to guard British waters from EU fishermen in case no deal is agreed on fishing rights after the Brexit transition period ends on 31 December.
The Ministry of Defence, confirming the move, said the deployment of the boats had been agreed as part of planning for the end of the transition period.
According to The Times, patrol powers will be beefed up with Navy officers allowed to board foreign vessels and arrest fishermen if no deal is reached.
Fishing has been one of the sticking points in talks, which are fast approaching their end on Sunday with both sides saying no deal is likely.
Access to each other’s waters will end next year, although Brussels has called for the current terms to continue for 12 months – a request that appears to have been rejected.
Some Tory MPs have urged Boris Johnson to ensure UK waters will be protected if talks collapse.
Shrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski tweeted: “In the event of no deal with EU on Sunday we must receive absolute guarantee from Boris Johnson that British naval forces will be deployed from January 1 to prevent illegal French fishing in our waters.”
On Friday, the prime minister met senior minister Michael Gove, who is responsible for Brexit planning, and other officials to “take stock” of the government’s plans for a no-deal exit.’
Alongside the government going full throttle to appeal to the emotional consciousness whilst abandoning the intellectual consciousness we have their cheerleaders in the corporate billionaire (sometimes Nazi) media.

Why enter in to a conflict one cannot win?
The answer is simple. It is not about actual fighting it is about appealing to those who have nothing much to offer life and giving them hope of dying for another cause. Not one in which they can be liberated in life but one in which they can be liberated from life. The ultimate issue with this is that those who do adopt intellectual consciousness are currently being ignored. This may keep the far right happy but for the rest the country is being flushed down the toilet.
