Bournemouth Borough Council has teamed up with British Cycling to offer female residents a free chance to train as a Breeze ride leader and help inspire a new generation of active women.
Breeze is British Cycling’s biggest ever programme to get more women riding bikes for fun. Led by women for women, it relies on a hugely important group of volunteer champions to bring the programme to life.
In support of Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, aimed at getting more women active, the Council is offering free training to local women who can bring out the exciting, friendly and sociable elements of local bike rides. There is no need to be a cycling expert, just confident on a bike with heaps of enthusiasm! The free training session will be on Wednesday 18 March, 9am – 5pm at the Village Hotel, Bournemouth.
Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet member for transport said; “We are delighted to be working in partnership with British Cycling to deliver Breeze Champion training to future ride leaders.
“Bournemouth is committed to making cycling safer, easier and more attractive. I would encourage all ladies who cycle in Bournemouth to use this opportunity to share their passion with others.”
The free course will give new volunteers a chance to meet other Breeze champions and learn how to independently plan, deliver and promote rides to groups of women. In addition, new champions also receive a Breeze kit and free British Cycling ride membership.

Their passion and commitment to encourage and support women to get into cycling is admirable. It is in large part down to their efforts that the programme is as successful as it is, we never cease to be inspired by them.”
