Thomas Hardye’s School Headteacher Makes Statement Following Suspected Rape of 12 Year Old Girl

Parents and carers of students at a local secondary school have been informed of a police investigation that took place on the school field earlier this week.

In a letter issued by Headteacher Nick Rutherford, families were made aware that a section of the school field had been cordoned off by police on Tuesday. The school had not shared any information at the time, as they were asked to withhold communication until the police had completed their initial investigation and made a public statement.

Police have now confirmed that two 14-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a 12-year-old girl, which reportedly took place over the weekend. The case has been covered in the local press. Authorities have clarified that none of the young people involved are students at the school.

Mr Rutherford acknowledged the distress such news may cause:

“This is a shocking event which will cause concern to us as parents and to our children,” he wrote.

As a precaution, the school field has been closed throughout the week but is expected to reopen soon.

The headteacher encouraged any students who may be feeling upset or anxious to speak with a trusted adult within the school community—whether that be their tutor, a member of the Guidance team, or someone from the senior leadership team.

Mr Rutherford also reminded families that anyone with information relevant to the investigation should contact Dorset Police directly.
