Momentum have gathered data from more than 450 constituency Labour parties (CLPs) across the country, accounting for 984 of the 1,396 CLP delegates attending conference. Momentum asked CLP contacts how supportive each delegate was of Momentum’s aims at conference. The data shows that 75% (761) are supportive of Momentum’s aims at conference, with 9% (96) being persuadable and 16% (163) ranked as unsupportive.

The news comes as Momentum throws its weight behind three more radical policy proposals: abolishing private schools, building more than three million social homes over the next two decades and capping private rents nationally at 1/3 of average local incomes.

This follows Momentum’s backing for a Green New Deal which would see Britain go zero carbon by 2030, a four day working week with no loss in pay and the abolition of all detention centres. The Momentum-backed motions have proven popular with Labour members, with all being submitted to conference and the Green New Deal motion – put forward by Labour for a Green New Deal – being the most popular motion this year with nearly 130 submissions.

The survey suggests that the policy proposals backed by Momentum will attract a large amount of support amongst CLP delegates.

Laura Parker, Momentum’s National Coordinator, said: “It’s great to see such a groundswell of support for ambitious policy at the grassroots and that Labour members are getting stuck in to writing the next manifesto. On the eve of a snap general election, we’ll see thousands of Labour members come up with the radical agenda that will win Labour the next election. From ending the privilege of a tiny elite by abolishing private schools to tackling the climate crisis by cracking down on the oil and gas barons with a radical Green New Deal, Labour’s next manifesto will blow out of the water anything the Tories can offer.”
