A key town centre regeneration site is set to become a more vibrant place to live, work and visit as major improvements near completion.
Delivered as part of the Council’s Three Towns Travel programme, the street layout at Horseshoe Common is being redeveloped to make the area more attractive, and encourage more residents, visitors and shoppers to this part of town.
As the improvements near completion, a number of roads are set to undergo resurfacing works this week.
From the 23 to 26 September, Old Christchurch Road will be closed from Lorne Park Road to the pedestrian area at 103 Old Christchurch Road. And Dean Park Crescent and Fir Vale Road will be closed at their junction with Old Christchurch Road whilst the resurfacing works are carried out.
Pedestrian access to all properties in the area will be maintained at all times during these works.
Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet Member for Transport said, “It’s exciting to see these improvements in the final stages. Horseshoe Common is a key route for those travelling between the Bournemouth Travel Interchange and town centre. By making these changes we can encourage greater use of the Common, improve road safety, enhance the environment and support local businesses.
“These improvements also complement the ongoing regeneration being carried out in this area and will help build a better Bournemouth by stimulating economic activity and employment.”
Parking will be prohibited in these areas at all times during the period of resurfacing works, however alternative parking is available in the town centre car parks.
Ian Kalra, Head of Transportation Services said, “We understand that there may be some disruption as the works are nearing completion, however we will ensure this is kept to a minimum. During these final stages we are continuing to liaise with businesses and we have co-ordinated the resurfacing works so traders in the areas have time for deliveries, as well as ensuring pedestrian access is maintained at all times.”
