Time to grasp the nettle?

Dear Madam/Sir

West Dorset has just elected 6 Conservative County Councillors and 5 Liberal Democrat ones. This shows that the constituency is fairly evenly divided between these two parties. When you add up the votes cast on Thursday’s election and contrast the number of votes cast for the Tories – 19,822 against the combined votes for the other candidates 24.914, (Liberal Democrats, 16799, Labour 4,601 and Green, 3,514) it is clear that there the constituency has a majority who do not want the Tories to run the Council.

We realise that the General election has a much higher turn out than a county council election. However West Dorset had a turnout of 44%? Which is 10% higher than the national average of 34%??

Now we turn to the forthcoming General Election.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs in West Dorset showed the nation that we can take the lead nationally in using collective action to take a democratic stand. If all the constituencies in Britain could agree to have a Progressive Alliance with only one candidate standing against the Tory the newly elected rainbow government could then introduce a Proportional Representation voting system as their first agreed and sworn act.

We the undersigned call upon West Dorset parliamentary candidates to take the lead nationally and to select only one of their number to stand against our Conservative MP Oliver Lewin.

Margie
