Tom Walker (Jonathan Pie) addresses satire and freedom of speech

Tom Walker argues that the ‘left’ have handed freedom of speech to the ‘right’. He argues we should welcome people who are free to say (almost) anything they want to. This then enables us to challenge them in a public/private space.

I agree but with one proviso. If people want to be racist, sexist, homophobic… they must accept being challenged and be prepared to listen. This though is the hard bit.

A drunk racist homophobe in a city centre pub with his/her drunk racist homophobic mates are probably not up for a challenge to their racist, homophobic opinions. What then?
