Miriam Cates joins the list of Tories being investigated. Perhaps it is cheaper with a bulk deal?

Conservative MP Miriam Cates is under investigation by the parliamentary commissioner for standards for allegedly causing significant harm to the Commons’ reputation and its members. While the probe is confirmed on the watchdog’s website, specific details regarding the allegations are yet to be disclosed.

As a co-chair of the New Conservatives, a faction within the Tory party, Cates recently gained attention for criticizing Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda bill, citing its inadequacy in disapplying foreign human rights laws. Her outspoken views on family, attributing the UK’s declining birth rate to “cultural Marxism” and increased university attendance, have frequently sparked controversy.

At a National Conservatism conference, she emphasized the drop in childbirth as the paramount threat to British conservatism and Western society, surpassing concerns about climate change or geopolitical threats. Cates is one of eight MPs currently under investigation by standards commissioner Daniel Greenberg, including deputy speaker Dame Eleanor Laing, Conservative Sir Bernard Jenkin, and Reclaim MP Andrew Bridgen.
