West Dorset residents, businesses and visitors have given their views on the future provision of the tourist information service in the area.
West Dorset District Council is currently undertaking a review of its four Tourist Information Centres (TICs) located in Dorchester, Bridport, Sherborne and Lyme Regis, with a view to making a decision on their future direction in spring 2016.
The Tourist Information Service review is one of a series of reviews that the district council is carrying out to ensure it provides affordable services that meet the future needs of local residents and businesses.
The district council conducted a survey between 5 June and 3 July to capture the views of TIC customers, local residents who may not have used the service plus local businesses and organisations. The survey was hosted online, with paper copies available at the TICs and council offices. Members of the public also had the opportunity to give their views to officers at drop-in meetings at each TIC.
Over 2,000 responses were received, the majority of which were from TIC customers. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive about the service and in favour of it continuing in some form.
Cllr Mary Penfold, Enabling Portfolio Holder for West Dorset District Council said:
“I would like to thank all of those who took part in the survey.
“The comments and views will help inform the Council’s considerations towards future delivery options, taking account of our financial challenges.”
The full results of the survey, together with all the responses to the open-ended questions, can be viewed at: https://consultationtracker.dorsetforyou.com/westdorset/
The district council is now working with colleagues to develop options for the future delivery of the service.
