The Weymouth Town Centre Masterplan has reached the next stage in its adoption by the borough council following the end of the formal consultation period on 7 April.
A report has been compiled as part of the final consultation, which captures the comments Weymouth & Portland Borough Council has received from local residents, community groups, businesses and interested parties. The report will be taken to Management Committee councillors for discussion on Tuesday 28 April at the Weymouth Pavilion.
As part of its consultation process, the borough council has worked in partnership with the community, including local group #Weyforward in order to gather feedback from residents on the proposed plans.
Sarah Cairns, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Engineering Projects Manager said:
“Thanks to all those who have been involved so far, whether that’s filling in a survey, attending an event or commenting via Weyforward. This is an ambitious plan that needs the involvement of local residents and businesses in order to succeed.
“However, there’s still a lot to be done to make the plan a reality and development briefs and detailed design work will take place as proposals are brought forward for the town centre. We’ll be keeping the community updated on and involved in the masterplan as it develops. It is a long-term plan.”
The masterplan sets out ambitious plans to improve the economic wealth, physical environment and job prospects of Weymouth focusing on building a future town that is vibrant and prosperous. It is the borough council’s opportunity to secure major investment and deliver a thriving economic and improved living environment for the next 20 years and for future generations.
Members of the public are able to attend the council meeting on Tuesday 28 April, which starts at 9.30am in the Ocean Room, Weymouth Pavilion. The meeting agenda, reports and appendices of consultation results can be found on dorsetforyou.com/committees/weymouthandportland.
Mangagement Committee councillors will propose a final masterplan vision and supplementary planning documents for adoption by the borough’s Full Council in June. The masterplan will be a tool for the council to show ambition, vision and leadership to help secure private sector investment and more grant funding for the benefit of the borough.
