Tragedy As Man Assaulted On Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth Dies

A man has sadly died following an alleged serious assault in Weymouth.

Detectives continue to investigate an incident in Abbotsbury Road, which was reported at 8.12pm on Tuesday 10 December 2024. Officers attended with the ambulance service.

The victim, 75-year-old Anthony Jacob from Weymouth, was taken to hospital for treatment to head and facial injuries. Sadly, he died in hospital on Thursday 19 December 2024

Following fast-time enquiries at the scene, 19-year-old Jake Saunders from Weymouth was arrested and charged. He first appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 13 December 2024 and is next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 9 January 2025.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “Following the sad death of Anthony Jacob, detectives from MCIT have now taken on this investigation.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family during this difficult time.

“We are grateful to members of the public who have provided information to assist our enquiries so far, and I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“I would like to remind members of the public that court proceedings are active and there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
