Tragedy as man dies in collision near Wimborne

A man has sadly died following a serious road traffic incident near Wimborne.

The incident occurred at around 4.40pm on Tuesday 8 August 2023 involving a black Mazda 3 hatchback on Holt Road in Mannington. It was reported that a male passenger had exited the vehicle as it was moving.

The passenger – a man aged in his 30s – was taken by air ambulance to hospital. Very sadly, he died as a result of his injuries on Friday 11 August 2023.

A 45-year-old man from Verwood was arrested on suspicion of a driving offence and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Following fast-time enquiries, the arrested man has been released without charge in relation to the offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm. He remains under investigation in relation to the driving offence.

Inspector Craig Tatton, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“After our initial investigation, we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the male passenger exiting the vehicle and our enquiries are continuing into the driving offence.”
