Officers searching for a missing man in Wimborne have very sadly found a body.

At around 10am on Thursday 3 October 2024, officers sadly located the body of man in the water near to Julians Bridge.

While the man has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be 83-year-old Edward O’Carroll – who was last been in the town during the morning of Wednesday 2 October 2024.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

We would like to thank everyone who was involved in the searches and assisted officers, including Dorset Search and Rescue (DorSAR), Hampshire Search and Rescue, Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WiltSAR), Wessex Rescue, Wessex 4X4 Response and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
