Tributes have been paid to Nicola Wright, a key figure in the creation and growth of Weymouth-based medical supplies company Medisave, following her death in a single-person aircraft crash at Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon.
Emergency services were called to the airfield on the morning of Friday 26 June after reports that a light aircraft had crashed. The pilot, Nicola Wright, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was on board.
A police spokesperson said: “Tragically, the pilot – believed to be a woman in her 40s – was pronounced deceased at the scene. Nobody else was on board at the time. Her next of kin has been informed. The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been notified.”
Nicola Wright played a vital role in building Medisave alongside founder Graham Wright following the company’s establishment in 2000. Based in Weymouth, Medisave has grown into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of medical equipment and healthcare products, serving NHS organisations, healthcare professionals and emergency services across the country.
Beyond her business achievements, Nicola was known for her adventurous spirit and remarkable accomplishments. She was an experienced aerobatic pilot, skydiver, diver and mountain climber, earning admiration for her skill, determination and passion for challenging pursuits.
Nicola and Graham lived near Dorchester with their four children and were well known throughout Dorset. News of her death has been met with deep sadness by friends, colleagues and members of the local community.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are now under investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Branch, which has been notified in accordance with standard procedures following a fatal aviation incident.
