He’s been a significant figure in Turkish politics since the early 1990s, initially as the Mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998. Erdogan is known for his leadership in the Justice and Development Party (AKP), which he co-founded in 2001. Over the years, his political style and policies have sparked both support and criticism, both within Turkey and internationally.
