Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision in North Dorset are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 7.46pm of a collision on the A350 Main Road near the village of Compton Abbas involving a silver Audi TT Quattro, a grey BMW 218I and a pedestrian.

Emergency services attended and very sadly the pedestrian – a man aged in his 60s from Warminster in Wiltshire – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

A passenger from the Audi – a man aged in his 20s – was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious.

Following enquiries, a 19-year-old man from Shaftesbury and a man aged in his 20s from Mere in Wiltshire have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded to the incident and these remain in place as an examination of the collision scene is carried out.

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and the loved ones of the man who very sadly died in this collision.

“We are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures. These are absolutely necessary to allow for a thorough examination of the collision scene to be conducted.”
