Two People From Poole Among Five Arrested For Affray in Bournemouth

Dispersal Powers Granted After Public Disorder Incident on Bournemouth Seafront

Police in Bournemouth have been granted additional dispersal powers following a serious public order incident on Monday 30 June 2025, which resulted in injuries to a teenage girl and two police officers. The disturbance, which involved a large group of people, took place around 7:29pm near Pier Approach, a popular area on the seafront.

Details of the Incident

Dorset Police received reports of a significant disturbance involving numerous individuals. Officers quickly responded to the scene and worked to disperse the main groups involved. During the incident, a teenage girl sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

In the course of managing the situation, two police officers were assaulted. Their injuries were also reported as non-serious, but the assaults have prompted firm condemnation from Dorset Police.

In addition to the Pier Approach disturbance, officers were alerted to a fight in the Lower Gardens earlier in the evening. Rapid police enquiries led to the swift arrest of several individuals connected to both incidents.

Arrests Made

As a result of the police investigation:

  • Two girls from Bournemouth, aged 16 and 17
  • A 17-year-old girl from Poole
  • A 35-year-old woman from Poole
were all arrested on suspicion of affray in relation to the Lower Gardens incident.

Additionally:

  • A 22-year-old man from Newbury, Berkshire was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker in connection with the Pier Approach incident.

In total, five individuals have been arrested on suspicion of affray and one on suspicion of assault. Dorset Police have confirmed that their enquiries are ongoing and that further arrests may follow.

Increased Police Powers and Visible Presence

In response to the disorder, a dispersal order has been put in place covering the Bournemouth seafront, surrounding gardens, and parts of the town centre. This order grants officers enhanced powers to instruct individuals to leave the area if they are suspected of posing a risk of causing further disorder.

Local Policing Commander, Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey, made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated. She stated:
“Violence and disorder on Bournemouth beach will absolutely not be tolerated and anyone who is identified as being involved will be robustly dealt with.”

She further appealed to the public:
“I would urge anyone with information or who has captured relevant footage of the incidents to contact us. We want everyone visiting Bournemouth to feel safe and to enjoy their time here.”

Chief Superintendent Dixey also reassured the community of the force’s commitment to maintaining public safety:
“You can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area – this is to ensure the public feel safe and that any further disruption is swiftly dealt with. It is completely unacceptable for anyone to be injured, including our hard-working officers who are simply trying to protect the public.”

Police Issue Warning Against Disorderly Conduct

The beaches in Bournemouth are particularly busy during the summer months, attracting large numbers of families and visitors due to the warm weather. Dorset Police have reiterated that anyone planning to come to Bournemouth with the intention of causing trouble will face firm action.

The force has assured residents and tourists that plans are in place to ensure Bournemouth remains a safe and welcoming place throughout the summer.

Appeal for Information

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incidents or has mobile phone footage to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Dorset Police directly.

The investigation continues.
