Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious road traffic collision near Cerne Abbas that left three people with serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to the Old Sherborne Road, close to Alton Lane, at around 8.33pm on Sunday 2 August after a collision involving a black Mazda CX-5 and a silver Kia Sportage.
Police, ambulance crews and other emergency responders attended the scene, where both occupants of the Mazda suffered serious injuries. A woman in her 40s and a man in his 30s were taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Kia, a woman in her 60s, also sustained injuries believed to be life-threatening and was transported to hospital. A male passenger travelling in the same vehicle was treated for injuries that were not believed to be serious.
The collision led to the closure of the Old Sherborne Road for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident and specialist collision investigators carried out detailed examinations of the scene. The road has since reopened.
Officers from Dorset Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team are now working to establish exactly how the collision occurred and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen either vehicle before the crash, to come forward.
Sergeant Leanne Howes said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident, and I would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it.
“I would also urge any motorists who were travelling in the area around the time of the collision to please check any dashcam footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
Investigators believe that even seemingly minor observations from motorists or local residents could prove valuable in helping to piece together the events leading up to the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information, including dashcam footage captured on the Old Sherborne Road or surrounding routes around the time of the collision, is asked to contact Dorset Police.
Information can be submitted online, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260118887.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by visiting its website or calling 0800 555 111.
Police are continuing their enquiries, and anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is encouraged to get in touch as the investigation progresses.
