United Nations Verdict Damns Israel For All Time

A damning verdict has been delivered from the halls of the United Nations, one that history will inevitably mark as a watershed moment. For the first time, a UN-mandated body has officially declared that the state of Israel is guilty of committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. This is not a passing allegation from a non-governmental organisation; it is the conclusive finding of a rigorous international investigation, representing a formal and devastating indictment of Israel’s military campaign.

The report from the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry leaves little room for equivocation. It methodically concludes that Israel’s actions, executed with a clear “intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza,” satisfy the legal criteria for genocide. The evidence compiled is harrowing and comprehensive: the mass killing of civilians, the infliction of profound bodily and mental harm through torture and displacement, the deliberate imposition of starvation and inhumane conditions, and even the calculated destruction of a fertility clinic—an act of brutal symbolism intended to prevent future generations of Palestinians from being born. This is a systematic effort to erase a people, their culture, and their future.

At the heart of this atrocity lies the culpability of Israel’s highest leadership. The commission explicitly names President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant as having incited this genocide. Their rhetoric and policies have directly fuelled a campaign of collective punishment that has, according to Gaza’s health authorities, claimed the lives of nearly 65,000 people, the vast majority being women, children, and the elderly. This is not collateral damage; it is the intended outcome.

The international community, particularly Israel’s staunchest allies, now stands complicit. While a separate UN-backed body confirms famine is ravaging Gaza, Israel absurdly claims “there is enough food for everyone,” a statement that insults the very notion of truth. The commission’s call for an immediate arms embargo is not merely a recommendation; it is a legal and moral imperative. Those nations who continue to supply the weapons enabling this slaughter are directly facilitating a genocide they have a duty to prevent.

This report transcends the typical political condemnations and debates. It is a formal legal finding that Israel has crossed the brightest of red lines, joining a dark list of regimes that have committed the world’s most heinous crime. The evidence is overwhelming, the intent is clear, and the suffering is unimaginable. The world must now choose: will it uphold its solemn vow of “never again,” or will it continue to look away as Gaza burns? History’s judgment will be unforgiving.
