The Access to Higher Education Diploma at Weymouth College is celebrating as it has seen some of the largest numbers of students being accepted onto university places this September. In total, 49 Access students have been offered places at university to study courses ranging from Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Practice, Marketing and, Marine and Freshwater Biology.
The university places have been secured at universities across the UK including Aberystwyth, Bournemouth, Southampton, Coventry and Worcester to name a few. This year the Access results have been made even more exceptional as 18 students have been accepted to study nursing at Bournemouth University, and to top these results off, six students have also been accepted to study midwifery at Bournemouth which is another credit to the students’ abilities.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma at the College has seen numbers increase substantially over the past five years. The programme prepares mature students without traditional level 3 qualifications for study at university. Diplomas students can choose to study at Weymouth College include Forensic Science, Art and Social Sciences (Humanities), Journalism and Media, Nursing and Midwifery (Science) and Teaching.
These results are released as the College begins preparations for a week long focus on adult learners as part of the national Adult Learners’ Week, 13-19 June. Adult Learners’ Week is a national celebration of lifelong learning; the biggest in England which is now in its 24th year. The College will be releasing a number of features on its adult learners, and will be celebrating their achievements at a special event being held at the College’s HIX Academy on Thursday 18th June.
If you are a mature student and thinking about getting back into education, there will be an opportunity to speak to a careers and employability adviser during Adult Learners’ Week. Appointments will be available 15-19 June. If you would like to make an appointment, please call the college reception on 01305 761100. The College is also holding a summer open day on Saturday 27th June when all subjects will be represented.
