Volunteers at Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum.

Do you want to help bring the history of Dorchester to life?

The newly opened Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to provide a friendly welcome to visitors and shoppers.

The new attraction, which opened on May 1st on High West Street, Dorchester, is open seven days a week and includes a café and gift shop, which are free for the public to look round and enjoy. The museum itself tells the story of 200 years of justice, injustice, crime and punishment and features travelling exhibitions and displays too.

Elliott Bailey, the Volunteer Co-Ordinator for Shire Hall said they were looking for volunteers to join them as visitor experience assistants, working on reception and in the gift shop. He said: “We have a fantastic team of volunteers who have been welcoming visitors and supporting them as they make their way around the museum. Even though we have over 100 volunteers there is still room for more.

“Shire Hall is open 7 days a week, so we are particularly looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are happy to work Saturdays and Sundays, to provide a friendly welcome to our visitors and shoppers.”

He added: “Volunteers can do a morning shift from 9.30am to 1.30pm or an afternoon from 1.15pm to 5.15pm, we would also welcome volunteers who would prefer to do all day.”

Volunteers will benefit from on-going training in their roles, be eligible for volunteering benefits including a 20% discount in the Shire Hall shop and café, have the opportunity to develop skills and experience, including working towards accreditation of the volunteering and most importantly, volunteers will have a lot of fun too.

If you would like to be part of the Shire Hall team, please contact Elliott Bailey, Volunteer Co-Ordinator at [email protected] or phone 01305 261849.
