I read your article titled Weymouth Old Town Car Park – take care at night…

I recently returned from a visit to the UK where I hired a car to drive my wife and I through our first experience of the UK.

Upon visiting Weymouth on our first day on the road from London we became a bit lost and disorientated.  Rather than hold up traffic or pull into the curbside, which we knew was illegal, we pulled into a carpark to download a map and get our bearings.  We didn’t leave the car – it was 6:00pm, cold, wet and dark.  We didn’t transact any business.  We didn’t prevent anyone else from parking as the carpark was quite empty.  We got our bearings and moved on.

We didn’t notice any signage but had we been staying for any length of time I would have done the usual thing in seeking signage and if required, paying a fee.

Now we have a GBP 60.00 parking charge and an appeal to Parking Eye for a bit of tolerance for a lost tourist has been rejected.

In Australia there would be a grace period or some highly visible signs.

From searching the internet there seems to be a history here with Parking Eye.

So much for Weymouth being a welcoming town that seeks to attract overseas tourists.

Actually that is too harsh.  We enjoyed Weymouth and found it to be a wonderful place to visit with very pleasant people.

We just have this unpleasant aftertaste to deal with.

Thought you may like to hear our story.
