Works will start in West Bay on Monday 13 April to make changes to the traffic management scheme.

The pinch point at Haddon House will be widened, and a clearer pedestrian crossing facility introduced at St John’s Church.

These changes were agreed by West Dorset District Council’s Executive Committee in July in response to a petition from local residents and businesses. The district council agreed that further funding would be reserved for the amendments.

Design work and safety audits have now been completed and Dorset County Council will carry out the works on behalf of the district council.

Hilary Jordan, West Dorset District Council Head of Planning (Community and Policy Development) said: “We are very pleased to be completing this enhancement scheme.

“We would also like to thank the residents and visitors to West Bay for their patience while the works are taking place and hope that these final changes will resolve the concerns raised in the petition.”

The work will start on Monday 13 April and will take two to three weeks to complete.

While works take place traffic will be controlled by two-way traffic lights.

The two-way traffic lights will be used during the working hours of 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. The lights will be taken off the road outside these times and the road will be open fully in both directions.
