West Dorset District Council’s acclaimed Care and Repair service will be transferring to Millbrook Healthcare on 1 April 2015 to provide an extended range of county wide services.
West Dorset Care and Repair has been running for 21 years, helping over 400 elderly or disabled residents each year to remain living independently in their own homes.
The highly acclaimed in-house agency was only the third agency of its kind to gain national accreditation in its field and has regularly received recognition for the quality and quantity of work it has undertaken.
The agency organised and assisted residents with home adaptations ranging from a simple handrail to the construction of extensions.
Annually the agency has managed building work to the value of £600,000 to £800,000.
West Dorset District Council’s Housing Improvement Manager Geoff Joy said: “The Care and Repair Agency has been a real success story for the council, improving the lives of many residents over the years by arranging for necessary adaptations, improvements or repairs to allow them to remain living in their own homes.
“We have been very fortunate to have had an extremely dedicated team working within the agency led by an excellent manager, Bob Ruthven, who has been with the agency throughout its existence.
“We now move to a new era with Millbrook Healthcare providing the Dorset Accessible Homes service, which will be looking to deliver a wider range of support to the elderly and disabled including a range of assistive technology solutions”.
Millbrook Healthcare, a service specialising in telecare and other assistive technologies, will be taking over from both West Dorset Care and Repair and Mears Home Improvements Ltd, who have been providing similar services across the rest of Dorset. The county wide service will be known as the Dorset Accessible Homes Service.
