“Westbourne cinema to host Robin Williams tribute evening”

The smallest cinema in the UK, Bournemouth Colosseum, located in Westbourne’s historic arcade, is hosting a tribute evening to the American actor Robin Williams on Saturday 30th August.

The unique cinema which seats just 20 people will screen clips of stand-up comedy performed by the comedian, as well as footage from old interviews and TV footage.  The evening will finish with a viewing of one of the star’s most famous films.

Bournemouth Colosseum is housed beneath Lavish Life Coffee Bar and recently screened another very successful evening dedicated to the memory of actor Rik Mayall, who died in June this year.

Owner Paul Whitehouse said, “We intend the evening to be a real celebration of Robin William’s life and there is likely to be much laughter.  Drinks will be served from 7pm on Saturday 30thand the film clips will be shown from 7.30pm.  We are confident that the evening will be a sell out and I would urge anyone interested in attending to book early.”

Paul enthused, “Lots of people are huge fans of Robin Williams’ films and comedy, like me.  I grew up with Robin Williams in the same way that I’ve always watched Rik Mayall on the television, so it’s a great way for me to be able to pay a proper tribute to him.”

The Colosseum which is enjoying much interest from locals, specialises in showing classic films alongside mainstream movies. The venue can also be hired out for private parties. Earlier this year a tribute evening was held to celebrate the anniversary of The Great Escape, which raised funds for Star and Garter Home, a residential home for former service personnel.

Paul added, “In September we are going to be honouring another Hollywood legend and will be screening a number of films over a period of several nights in memory of Lauren Bacall.”

Tickets for the Robin Williams tribute evening are priced at £10. For more information, or to book, call 01202 769092
