Many residents in Weymouth and Portland went to the polls yesterday (5 May) to elect representatives to the borough council.

Following these elections the council is now made up of 14 Conservatives, 12 Labour, six Liberal Democrats, two independents, one UKIP and one Green.

This means that no single party has control of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council and it remains under no overall control.

The count – where the results were announced – took place at Weymouth Pavilion.

A total of 13 seats were contested across the borough. Borough councillors are elected in thirds and elections take place in three out of every four years. A total of 12 councillors were due to be elected and there was also one by-election.

The seats up for election were in Littlemoor, Melcombe Regis, Preston, Radipole, Tophill West, Westham East, Westham North, Westham West, Underhill, Weymouth West, Weymouth East and Wyke Regis (two seats).
