Since January 2018 the BID Board have considered and approved many funding applications
The BID will be financially supporting two local events at the end of May. Firstly the Fayre in the Square event which will take place on 26th & 27th May in and around the Brewers Quay area. This event is exclusively organised by the Rotary Club of Weymouth and offers two days of free entertainment and stalls along the harbourside. The funds raised at the Fayre in the Square event are distributed to local and regional charities by the Rotary Club.
The second application was made by the Wessex Folk Festival who will be holding the very popular folk festival between the 1st and 3rd June 2018 in Trinity Street and Hope Square area of Weymouth. Many people travel to Weymouth for the festival to take part in the dancing, musical entertainment and side shows. The popular, free event attracts thousands of visitors every year with its vibrant celebration of folk music and dance. There will be two outdoor stages hosting more than 30 music performances, while the streets will be brought to life by a mass of morris dancing sides. Curtain-raiser sessions in pubs around Weymouth will start the event off on the evening of Friday June 1 with the festival proper running throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday June 2nd and 3rd.
“We had a great festival in 2017, with large crowds enjoying the music and dance along the harbourside,” said Festival Committee Chair, Mike Donovan. “We’re already well advanced with our planning for this year and are talking to some very exciting acts about appearing.”
The BID will also be supporting many local event with promotion and marketing this year including the Weymouth Carnival, Air 107.2 Party in the Park and other smaller events.
Weymouth BID has provided funding to a number of organisations since it was formed in 2013 including the 2016 Weymouth Leviathan Literary Festival, Motocross, Weymouth Carnival as well as additional projects, such as Best Bar None, RU2 Drunk, and new Radios for Pubwatch as part of the Night Time Economy support.
Claudia Moore Chief Operating Officer of Weymouth BID said “Weymouth BID likes to consider as many applications as possible which are made to the BID Board in terms of financial support for local events. As well as financial support, the BID can also provide effective marketing through the We Are Weymouth website and social media platforms. The We Are Weymouth brand has proved useful in helping organisations promote their events to our 26,000 followers on Facebook which reached over 5 million people in 2017.”
