Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT’s) Big Wild Chesil event will be returning to the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre on Sunday 2nd August, with its biggest line-up of events and activities to date.

Throughout the day, visitors and families will be invited to enjoy various events, from exploring the wonders of the Fleet Lagoon on our low-tide walk, to relaxing with a drink and bite to eat whilst listening to a sea shanty played by Dorset Wrecks.

There will be hands-on wildlife surveying experience for adults and children with a Pink Sea fan survey, an Eggcase Hunt and an opportunity to take part in The Big Butterfly count. If you really want to get close to nature, find out more about binoculars with experts from Optricon.  Local illustrator and author, Nicola Dennis will also be reading the new Bizzy the Blenny children’s book, and there will be crafty activities for kids to take part in.

The popularTaste* café will have a barbeque full of summer treats on offer from 11.30am – 4pm. Plus you’ll have the opportunity to book yourself aboard the Fleet explorer glass bottom boat for a brilliant trip on the lagoon finding out more about the wildlife and local history.

DWT’s Chesil Centre Assistant, Vicky Ashby said, “We look forward to welcoming everyone to this wildlife celebration! The event has a festival atmosphere and attracts over a thousand people every year. There is something for everyone from wildlife wanders to local performances”.

The Chesil Centre was recently host to BBC Breakfast in Dorset, where they celebrated their 2year anniversary by broadcasting live from the centre and Chesil beach.  There is a wealth of information boards for visitors to enjoy, and you can view the hidden world beneath the waves with the underwater camera.  The shop also has some great gifts and goodies, where 100% of the profits go back into wildlife conservation in Dorset.
