A Weymouth man has been jailed for committing a sexual offence and assaulting a woman.

David Charles Owens, 55 and of Weymouth, was sentenced to five years in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 2 February 2023. He previously was convicted of sexual assault by penetration, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breaching a non-molestation order following a trial.

The incident occurred in January 2022 at the defendant’s home address.

Despite the victim, his partner at the time, repeatedly telling Owens to get off of her, he proceeded to sexually assault her.

As she struggled to get away from him, she was punched in the face by Owens and sustained a broken nose.

Owens was subsequently arrested and an investigation was carried out by detectives from Dorset County CID.

Detective Constable Kate Rhodes, of Dorset County CID, said: “Dorset Police takes sexual and violent offences of this nature extremely seriously and we will carry out detailed enquiries to ensure those responsible face justice.

“This must have been extremely difficult for the victim and I would like to thank her for her support throughout the investigation.

“I hope this case will help encourage other victims of sexual and violent offences to find the bravery to come forward and report what has happened to the police, in the knowledge that they will be fully supported.”
