Officers carrying out enquiries on behalf of HM Coroner for Dorset into the death of a man on Portland are appealing for information from the public.

At 7.33pm on Friday 29 July 2022 Dorset Police received a report of a body having been found down cliffs on the island.

Officers attended, assisted by the coastguard, to recover the body and investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Following enquiries, the body has been formally identified as 59-year-old Warren Rutledge from Weymouth. His death is not believed to be suspicious.

Detective Sergeant Claire Lloyd, of Dorset County CID, said: “Our thoughts remain with Warren’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“As is normal in these cases, we are now making enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office to establish the full circumstances and trace his movements leading up to his sad death.

“We are appealing specifically to anyone who saw Warren between Monday 11 July and Friday 29 July 2022 to please get in touch.

“Anyone who thinks they might be able to assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Dorset Police.”
