Weymouth Town Council’s multi-sports beach event marks a decade since London 2012 Olympics

“A decade on from Weymouth hosting the Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, Weymouth Town Council is hosting a series of free events on the beach to recapture the Olympic spirit and encourage more people to get active,” says Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth. 

Get Active on Weymouth Beach is a free event suitable for all ages and abilities and will run from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 24th July. Try have a go sessions in football skills, Rugbytots, and volleyball. In addition, there will be fun relay races, hula hooping, and throwing games. There will also be face painting for children. 

Try a beginner’s leaded exercise class in Zumba, dance aerobics, Latin solo, seated stretch along exercises, beach bootcamp and yoga. These sessions will be suitable for all to take part in and last approximately 20 minutes.  

As part of the day, there will be an opportunity to learn more about Weymouth Town Council projects such as work to tackle climate change, the Neighbourhood Plan and the Friends of Tumbledown will talk about the unique former farm and the work of the volunteers. 

Find out about free health walks that regularly take place weekly in Weymouth and Livewell Dorset will also be on hand to provide wellbeing tips and signpost you to local providers. 

This event will round off the annual Beach Sports Festival which is on now until Sunday 24th July on Weymouth Beach.

Thursday 14th July 6pm to 9pm – Nantes charity volleyball evening, 32 local businesses playing friendly matches whilst raising money for local charities. 

15th, 16th & 17th July 12pm to 6pm, 9am to 5pm, 9am to 5pm – Beach Volleyball Classic Tournament sponsored by We Are Weymouth and in partnership with Weymouth Town Council and Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club. Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth will be at the event at 3pm on Sunday. 

Monday 18th July 6.30pm to 7.30pm 

Back to netball. Free have a go session led by local Weymouth Netball Coach. Suitable for beginners. 

Tuesday 19th July 6.15 pm to 7pm 

Aerodance – Fun and easy session for all to joy in with, no need to book, just turn up and take part. 

Thursday 21st July 6.30pm to 7.15pm 

Zumba. Free have a go session for beginners to take part in again no booking required. 

On Saturday 23rd July – Martial Arts have a go session organised by The Combat Lab, Weymouth in the Sports Arena opposite Alexandra Gardens, Weymouth Esplanade.  Free workshops and ‘have a go’ sessions run throughout the day, from 1pm to 5pm together with a Jiu Jitsu Exhibition Tournament in the evening. 

1pm to 2pm Kids Jiujitsu Seminar with top UK MMA coach Paul Hines 
 
2pm to 3pm Kids Kickboxing Seminar with TCL coach Tom Jones. 
 
3pm to 4pm Adults Thai Boxing on The Beach with coach Ceri Walker. 
 
4pm to 5pm Adults Box on the Beach Session. A padwork and boxing workout with coach Paul Hines. 
 
6pm to 9pm Come along and watch a Jiu Jitsu Exhibition Tournament.
