The clockface of the iconic Jubilee Clock has been turned blue to pay tribute to the NHS staff who are working around the clock on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak.
Weymouth Town Council has turned the clockface blue in time for the nationwide ‘Clap for our Carers’ campaign. At 8pm this evening (Thursday 26th March), people up and down the country are encouraged to give a round of applause to show their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, carers, GPs, pharmacists and other NHS staff working hard to help those affected by coronavirus.
The Jubilee Clock joins other landmarks and buildings up and down the country, including Wembley Stadium, in turning blue to support this campaign.
The blue light on the clock will shine a light on the incredible people working for the NHS and will remain blue for the foreseeable future.
Graham Winter, Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, said:
“I am delighted that we are able to show our support for the NHS during what is a very challenging time for everyone. It’s important that we come together as a community to show our appreciation to those on the frontline, and it would be fantastic if we could all ‘Clap for our Carers’ at 8pm this evening.”
